A loan helped a member to buy new orange seedlings, labour costs, fly traps and fertilizer.

Obi Nyim Group's story

Abigail is 28 years old married with 2 children. Her oldest child is 2 years old and the youngest 10 months. She is a member of Obi Nyim group of Efutu Koforidua. Abigail has been farming for the past 5 years and grows oranges on 6 acres of land. She also operates a provision store at home to get additional income. She is very confident and projects that by the age of 40, she will be able to expand her farm to 15 acres. She has been confronted with the cost of maintaining her farm, especially the labour costs of weeding and pruning as well as to buy fertilizer and fly traps to maximise her yield. Her several attempts to secure credit from the banks proved futile as commercial banks are reluctant to offer farmers credit. Abigail's ability to buy these farming inputs will help her make a good harvest. Good harvest means she will be able to make enough profit on her farm, and be able to support her children through school. Abigail says well done to her micro lenders and thankful for their amazing support.
