A loan helped to access high quality inputs such as fertilizer and seed in order to double income and yield.

Hajara Habila's story

Hajara Habila is a farmer from Sarkin Dawa. As a Babban Gona member, Hajara Habila is excited about the opportunity to finally have access to credit, good markets and a trained agronomist. Like all Babban Gona members, Hajara Habila can earn up to $2000/ha this season from growing maize, more than three times the average Nigerian farmer’s annual income. The average Babban Gona farmer yields 30 bags/hectare, double the national average of 14. However, Hajara Habila is ambitious and is aiming to reap 35 bags per hectare this season. When asked, Hajara Habila said “I plan to use the money I make to provide more food and clothing for my family. In 5 years, I want to ensure my children are educated and have professional jobs.” With this loan, Hajara Habila is on her way to achieving this dream.
