Virgo Group's story

Nemhoi, 42, a featured member of the group Virgo with her hand raised, is a weaver by profession and earns a meager income. She lives with her father and brother. Her mother left them during her late childhood and she has been brought up in a difficult environment. Their total family income is 13,900 INR per month with Nemhoi being the main source of income. She makes 10,400 INR per month. The family has been living in a rented house and working in their own way to sustain their live. Nemhoi weaves different types of traditional shawls and wraparounds, namely Saipikhup and Khamtang(local name). She makes four to five products per month. She has been in need of money to buy yarn and weaving materials for better production of her products in the hope of a better income. The family has been planning to buy a small plot of land so that they can settle down in their own house for a better life. All members are working hard to save money to buy a plot and Nemhoi, being the main source of income, needs the loan as capital to improve her business.

The group Virgo was formed by women with a common interest to get a loan so that they can improve their business endeavors. The other group members are engaged in different businesses including retail shop and weaving.
