The 10 women of Bolodobolo 2 Group are all married, [living] in traditional families. On average, they are 39 years old and have four children. They all live in the village of Banankoroniwere, in the Ségou region (4th administrative region in the Republic of Mali).
These women know one another from their farming activities during the rainy season, and through neighborhood, marriage, and family ties in the village. They grow ground nuts, millet, beans, fonio [a type of millet], and rice. With the goal of purchasing small equipment, seeds, and farm inputs, and of paying the labor costs for hoeing the fields, the group members decided to collaborate with Soro Yiriwaso and are in their fifth crop loan cycle.
Mrs. Djeneba (the first woman seated in the photo, left to right) is a leader in rainy-season farming in the village of Banankoroniwere. She plans to use her loan to purchase seeds, farm inputs, and small equipment in the village of Banankoroniwere, Ségou region, and also to pay the young people to hoe her field. She will sell her agricultural products for cash at the end of the rainy season, to repay her loan and to have some income to see to the small needs of her children, and a portion for helping her husband.
