Felicita, 41, is a farmer. She is widowed and has four children, two of whom are grown and independent, and two who are still in school. The younger ones, after finishing their school work, help their mom with the daily chores. The loss of her spouse has been difficult for the family, but they have been overcoming it little by little and working to get their family ahead.
Felicita needs to do maintenance on her cacao crop, which is one of her income sources. In order to make more money, she needs to invest in it. She sacrificed a lot in order to do the planting; now she needs to buy pruning scissors, fertilizers, to prepare the soil and to plant plantains and shrubs to shade the cacao plants. She doesn't make enough money to pay for this investment herself, which is why she asks for a loan to finish this project and improve her income from the sale of the cacao within the year. Her goal is for her children to learn the activities of the farm so that they can manage it in the future and be independent.
