Rosa, 55, has a ninth grade education. She is legally married but lives as a single mother since her husband left her around ten years ago. Her three children are 35, 34 and 32. They are married and live and work independently. Rosa's mother and two granddaughters, ages 14 and 7, live with and depend on her.
Rosa works in a child care center and earns $60.00 a month. She has been working there for 12 years because what her husband earned was not enough to cover household expenses and she wanted to contribute something. But when her husband left she had to work even harder as a single mother because she really needed the money. She walks to work, an hour away, and her schedule is from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Rosa wants to use the loan to buy metal sheeting for the roof of her house and also to pay for part of her mother's treatment. She is worried about the coming winter because the current sheeting on her roof is broken.
Her goal is to finish her house, because there is much left to be done. She says she can do it little by little and will be proud of her accomplishment. She wants to provide her granddaughters with an education and is hopeful her mother will get better since she is quite old and ill.
