The communal bank "Flor y Cielo" (Flower and Sky) is requesting its first loan from Pro Mujer, as part of the Centro Focal de Patacamaya. The bank has eight member and is led by a board whose president is Silvia. The members of the communal bank run a variety of businesses including cattle rearing, delivering milk, selling potatoes and chuño (freeze-dried potatoes), farming, running convenience stores, selling soda and beer. The loan requested will be used to help small business owners like Silvia. It is the first year that Silvia has been part of Pro Mujer and she joined after being invited by one of the promoters who came to visit her at her house. She currently runs a business selling soda and beer. She says that she learned this trade from her parents as from an young age she used to help her mother with the business, and that is how she learned how it worked. She is requesting the loan to be able to buy more stock (beer and soda) that she will buy in the neighboring villages to later sell at her stall. Her business gives her enough money to provide for her family as she is married and has five children. When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she said that she enjoys the training sessions that the institution offers.
