Solidaria Mujer Ekofusion Group's story

Ekofusion Group
San Antonio de Belén, Heredia

This group is made up of five women who belong to the same family. They are developing alternatives that contribute to the improvement in their quality of life through the production and sale of products made through the Vitrofusión technique, which uses recycled glass materials. This supports the well being of the environment.

Vitrofusión is the art of molding glass by using high temperatures in special ovens. It produces very beautiful accessories and objects due to the colors applied and the transparency of the material, with a touch of creativity. It is a unique 20th century technique, as it requires a very special tool, a thermoformed oven, that takes the pieces of glass and molds them to create special and innovative items.

Ekofusion is an alternative for working women to access a productive business given their vulnerability and financial circumstances. They were unable to access higher education, which, together with the unemployment in the country, pushed them to find economic and social opportunities on their own.

Ileana, one of the members of this group, is a mother of two children. She wants to support her family financially with this business. They work in the mornings, and in the afternoons they sell their product. She is one of the women that works in the workshop and two other women go to markets and sell their product in the nearby communities.

They want to open a door of hope for their own development and growth with this project, creating not just an economic solution, but also ensuring quality of life and creating jobs in the short term. At the same time they are helping to care for the environment by using recycled materials like bottles and recycled glass that they get from their community at minimal cost. They also help their neighbors by teaching them how to recycle glass and helping to decrease pollution.

In this group: Ileana María, Idalia, Bella, Francini, Beatriz
