Pacamache 1 Group's story

Dora, fourth from the right in the photograph, is a lady who is 36 years old and married with four children. She lives with her family in Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán, Sololá.

She is engaged in the production and sale of bananas, which she carries out in the community where she lives. She learned this occupation from her parents, who had been engaged in it for many years. This work generates the income that she needs to support her family, and she comments that she likes this occupation because it is honest, and it helps her to feel useful to her community. She has more than 24 years’ experience in this occupation.

She decided to organize a group with her friends, with the goal of helping each other and thus improving their living standards. She will use the loan for the purchase of supplies such as fertilizer, and for the payment of workers, in order to maintain the banana plants.

Dora dreams of increasing the area of her banana fields, and thus increasing her income, in order to provide her children with an academic preparation, and prepare them for the future.
