Manuela (shown in the photo standing in the first position, from left to right) is a 52-year-old woman who is married and has a son who is already married. She lives in Santa Catarina Ixtahuacan, Sololá.
Manuela produces and sells bananas in the community where she lives. She learned this line of work from her parents who dedicated themselves to this trade for many years. Manuela’s work enables her to generate the necessary income for sustaining her family. She says that she enjoys her work because it is honest labor and it helps her feel useful in her community. Manuela has more than 39 years of experience in this trade.
She decided to organize a group so that she and her fellow group members could help one another and improve their standard of living. Manuela will use her loan to buy supplies (such as fertilizer) and to pay for labor so that can maintain her banana plants. She dreams of increasing her banana plantings so that she can improve her income.
