From a small village of Khurda district, Odisha state, India, sixteen women stepped out and made a self-help group having the name of "Sri Satya Sai Shg" to earn some money from different activities to support their families. All the group members are engaged in different business activities like paddy cultivation, vegetable cultivation, etc.
Ranjarani, age 41, is a married lady with one daughter. The lady standing with her hand raised is Ranjarani. To provide her living, she has been planting rice and farming for twelve years. Her farming earned an income of 3,500 INR per month.
Now she is the group leader of this group, and they are seeking their first loan with People's Forum (Kiva’s partner) for 240,000 INR. As the group leader, she is going to use her loan portion to buy rice seeds and fertilizer for her farmland. She hopes her rice will gain a good crop yield for her to earn a profit to support her business.
