A loan helped to buy crop fertilisers and a dairy cow.

Norma Evelin's story

Norma is 44 and only studied up to eighth grade as her parents didn't have much money and so they decided they were unable to continue sending her to school. She is now married and her husband works in agriculture. Three of her children are still living with her. Norma now works in agriculture with her husband. This is work she has done since her childhood, as her parents instilled the work into her, even being female. She also buys small chickens and in 6 weeks will sell them and she buys cattle and will sell those in a few months. She does a little bit of everything and what motivates her is to earn a living for herself and her family. She does not have a set work routine as she gets up very early and prepares breakfast for her husband and her children and then she carries out whatever daily chores she has to do.

Norma plans to use the loan to buy some fertiliser for her crops as she didn't have money to cover it. In addition, she is planning to buy a dairy cow and thus be able to meet her loan repayments. She needs a lot, but with the loan she will be able to carry on working. Her dream is to have a bigger business which she can rely on for the rest of her life without worrying. She also dreams of being able to send her children to school, as she herself didn't have that opportunity. She is most grateful for the opportunity the loan provides. She knows that she is taking on a significant commitment, but is also sure that only in this way will she be able to make her dreams a reality.
