A loan helped to make repairs on his roadside service truck.

Juan's story

Juan is a single dad of a fourteen-year-old son. During the recession he lost his job as a maintenance supervisor, but was determined to get back on his feet. He took a job as a roadside service mechanic, allowing him to save enough money to purchase his own tools and flatbed tow truck. It took Juan a few months to gain the experience to start his own roadside service business.

In mid-2013 Juan started having maintenance issues with the truck, which later broke down. Although the truck was his only source of income, Juan did everything to make sure his truck payments were made on time, by cutting back on personal expenses and downsizing from a house to an apartment.

Juan has approached several banks but has not been able to find financing. The $5,000 loan will help him pay for the repairs on the truck and other operating expenses. With the help from Fresno CDFI and KIVA he will be able to continue to service the five contracts that he has gained this past year and continue to provide for his family. Fresno CDFI supports the loan request due to Juan’s hard work and good business ethic.
