Mrs. Thach L., 55, and her husband, Mr. Yun Choun, 56, live on an island in the Mekong River about fifteen kilometers from Phnom Penh. They were married in 1972 and have four sons. One of them is married and lives outside the family home. Another two sons are assisting with Yun's business of wooden house construction.
Mrs. Thach has been a silk weaver, using a skill she learned from her mother, after the Pol Pot regime. Thach sells her finished products to the middle man in the village, who then takes them to sell in Phnom Penh. Mr. Yun has been building wooden houses for over twenty years. Now Thach is requesting a loan of US$1000 to purchase blacksmith materials and a generator for her husband's business.
