A loan helped a member to purchase farm inputs and seeds and to pay for plowing fields.

Dougoudeme Ii Group's story

The members of the group "DOUGOUDEME II" are married women, who average 26 years of age and three children each, all living in polygamous families in DIOMANA, a village in KEBILA, Préfecture de KOLONDIEBA (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their seventh loan with the institution. The past loans were indeed paid back.

The crop grown is sesame, as is the case with MAYATOU, who is first from the left in the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase some farm inputs and seeds and to pay for plowing to make use of 2 hectares.

After the harvest, the produce is sold to men and women customers in the village and in KEBILA. She plans on making an average profit of 145,500 francs CFA per planting. This profit will enable her to pay back the loan and also to help her husband to cover day-to-day expenses.

In this group: Radiatou, Mayatou, Diatou, Kadiatou, Oumou, Karidia, Fanta, Mayatou
