A loan helped to purchase organic compost.

Victoria's story

Victoria, who is 30-years old, lives together with her three children, who she cares for and educates, in her home. Like all hard-working and enterprising women, she makes her living in agriculture. She has extensive cropland in the area high above her neighborhood. She plants on it bananas of the island variety and coffee. Victoria says that for years she has been putting greater energy into her coffee plants, but that this year's infestation prevented her from getting the profit she'd hoped for. That is why she planted more island bananas this year. She says, “the market price (for bananas) went up a lot and I'm earning a good profit. Now I need to fertilize them well." Victoria harvests every two weeks and she needs to fertilize her plants so they produce good quality fruit. This is Victoria's first loan with KIVA, and she feels very grateful for having received the financial help that allows her to keep moving forward. In addition, she promises to punctually comply with her repayment plan. Victoria will invest the S/.2500 soles ($900 USD) in the purchase of organic compost to nourish her sown fields.
