The members of the group "DANAYA 7" are married women, who average 39 years of age and four children each, and they all live in polygamous families in Bladiè, a village in Bougouni (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their tenth loan with the institution. The past loans were indeed paid back.
The crops grown are peanuts, millet, and rice, as is the case with DIATA BAKARI, who is the first person sitting from the left in the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase some farm inputs and seeds and to pay for plowing to make use of 0.5 hectare.
After the harvest, the produce is sold at the village, in Garalo et Bougouni, to men and women customers. She plans on making a profit of 65,000 francs CFA per planting. This profit will enable her to pay back her loan and also to help her husband to cover day-to-day expenses.
