A loan helped to purchase equipment for his shopping cart maintenance business.

Carlos's story

"There are so many opportunities in America,” says Carlos. In 2010, Carlos moved from Peru to the United States with nothing but a piece of luggage and dreams to better his life

He came to America to study mechanics but could not find a job in his field and began working in a grocery store. After three years of balancing two full-time jobs as a maintenance employee, Carlos decided to use his mechanics education to start his own business "I've always loved fixing things. Getting the right pieces together and using tools". Carlos realized that most shopping carts in grocery stores are badly maintained, dirty, and often have broken parts. He saw an opportunity to put his mechanics skills, grocery store experience, and entrepreneurial spirit to the test and opened his own shopping cart maintenance business.

Carlos negotiated with the grocery store management to hire him to service the hundreds of shopping carts in the store. Carlos will start his business locally and he hopes that with the multiple connections he has made over the years as a grocery store employee, he can grow his business to service dozens of other grocery stores throughout Northern California. The loan will help Carlos purchase a power washer, a truck and other tools.
