A loan helped to renovate his house to rent out the rooms.

Mkrtich's story

57 year-old Mkrtich lives in Akhaltsikhe district with his 53 year-old wife. Mkrtich requested a loan from local financial institutions several times for family business start-up, but without any success. His loan request was rejected all the time, because of low income and the family’s poor living conditions. The family is without a source of the income at the moment.

Mkrtich requested a loan from Credo to start a family business. Mkrtich has now been approved for a loan within the framework of the new joint initiative of Kiva and Credo. The start-up loan program envisages provision of business start-up and re-startup credits with soft conditions to rural poor people, who do not have access to credit products. These rural poor people are regarded as “high risk borrowers” because of their low income. With his credit Mkrtich will renovate his house to rent out the rooms. He will try his best to make the house look comfortable. After the renovation is done, the rooms will look much better and will increase the rent price. The new business initiative, financed with the Kiva Start-up loan, will give Mkrtich an opportunity to earn an income for the family and significantly improve their living conditions.
