Mao, 59-years-old and the married mother of two children, lives in the Moung Russey district of Battambang province. She crops rice on two hectares of farmland and this is the single source of income for her family. This business, which she has been engaged in since she was 29-years-old, earns her about 20,000 KHR per day.
Mao, is a third time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner), and she leads a group of five members to seek new loan. The positive impact of her past loans has enabled her to raise her standard of living. Out of 5,000,000 KHR as the total loan’s amount, Mao, whose loan portion is 1,000,000 KHR, will spend this loan to pay the plowing fee for her farmland and to buy fragrant rice seed for growing. She hopes to gain more yield from her crops so that she can make more income.
