A loan helped to continue horticultural farming.

Veronica's story

Veronicah lives in the Litein area of Kenya. She has 2 children and has been doing this work for 5 years. Her primary income sources are milk, eggs, tea and her job salary.

She stated what is most enjoyable about farming: "Gaining profit from farming." Her biggest challenge is "Funds." Animals on the farm have not been given names.

Veronicah was asked why she chose Juhudi Kilimo for this loan, to which she replied: "Their low interest rate." This client was also asked what was learned during Juhudi's required micro-finance training session: "That they organize workshops for farmers."

Her highest monthly expense is school fees. When asked "How will this loan benefit her family", Veronicah replied, "I will be able to educate them."

As part of Juhudi's loan appraisal process, each borrower's assets are evaluated. Veronicah owns the following: 'cow, poultry, pump, motorcycle' but does not own 'pig, bicycle, automobile'. Juhudi Kilimo also tries to measure any change in living standards based on this loan. This borrower has in the household 'mosquito net, electricity, sewing machine, TV, DVD' but does not have 'solar power, running water'.

Note: To create this loan profile, Juhudi Kilimo used a mobile device to gather information in the field and send the data to a central online repository, thus reducing paper use, making the process more efficient, and keeping costs down."
