Adding to basket
The ten members of the group "Benkadi A" are married women averaging 45 years of age and four children each, all living in traditional families in Tarakasso, a village in SIKASSO, 3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali. The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their third loan with the institution. The past loans were indeed paid back.
The crops grown are peanuts and corn, as is the case with Ramata Soli, who is standing first from the left in the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase farm inputs, manure, herbicide, and seeds and to pay for plowing for maintaining 1 hectare.
After the harvest, the produce is sold in the village and at the market. She sells to a customer base composed of men and women. She plans on making a profit of 105,000 francs CFA per planting. This profit will enable her to repay the loan and also to help her big family to cover day-to-day expenses, as well as to pay for the children's healthcare.
