Benkadi 4 Group's story

The members of the Benkadi 4 Group are married women with an average age of 40 years and an average of four children. They are all living in polygamous families in Fanidiama, one of the villages of Kadiolo, in Sikasso, the third administrative region of Mali. They work with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their agricultural activities during the rainy season. They are on their eleventh loan with the institution, and their prior loans have been repaid in full.

Bintou Zoumana, shown standing in the center in the photo, grows crops of peanuts. With her ​​loan, she intends to buy agricultural inputs and seeds to maintain one and a half hectares of farmland. After the harvest, her produce is sold at the village market to a clientele composed of men and women.

She hopes to earn an income of 195,000 CFA francs per agricultural cycle. This income will allow her to repay her loan and to help her husband pay for their daily expenses.
