A loan helped to move to a larger location with more foot traffic.

Simon's story

Simon has been engaged with Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission (parent agency to Fresno CDFI) since he was 13 years old, when as a freshman in high school he joined an EOC after-school work program that helped him make ends meet for his mom, who was unemployed at the time. He worked for Goodwill and then attended summer school through the program, which allowed him to graduate a year early and, as he says, "kept me out of a whole lot of trouble."

Simon decided to open a cell phone repair store in 2012 after teaching himself to repair phones via YouTube videos. He was repairing all of his friend’s broken screens. In August, 2012, he opened a small cell phone repair shop in central Fresno.

Simon has been successful in business and is ready to expand to a new location with higher foot traffic. He completed a business plan and saved up $1,500 as part of an Individual Development Account (savings matching) program with Fresno CDFI. He needs an additional $2,000 to complete his capitalization for the move.
