Gontse's story

Gontse is a Business Management student of the Maharishi Institute. Gontse is 23 years old and was asked the following questions by a staff member of the Institute:

What do you study at the Maharishi Institute and what classes do you enjoy most?
“I’m pursuing a Bachelors of Business Administration. The classes that I enjoy the most are management classes and leadership classes because I like to lead and manage things, so that everything that has Leadership and Business Management is my best.”

What are your goals after graduation?
“After graduation I will like to work in a management position for any events company, as I believe leadership is my best skill. I will like to work in the city of Johannesburg; it will keep things moving for me, as I will work closer to people I know to achieve my goals. And yes, I will like to travel.”

Tell us about your background?
"I was born in Johannesburg in a town called Roodepoort, and I’m from a family of six. I’m the last born, the sixth one, with two sisters and three brothers. Currently, my mother is not working and my father passed on March 2011, and as now I have my sisters and brothers as breadwinners and supporting me through school and other financial issues.”

What do you do in your spare time?
“I attend youth clubs with a group of friends and get motivated by other young people, but mostly I’m at church doing sound, as I’m a sound engineer. I am working with youth at church, as I’m the events manager there, too. That's what I do apart from school.”

How will the Kiva loan change your life?
“The Kiva loan will help me and change my life, so that I will focus more on my academics and never stress a lot about my fees. The stipend will help me a lot in a way of transport to school, as am using a train to come to school every day, and my other small needs as a student at MI.”
