A loan helped a member to pay the plowing fee and to purchase rice seed.

Lat's Group's story

Lat, 41, is married and blessed with three children—two schoolchildren and one paid worker. She and the rest of her family are living in Battambang province’s Ek Phnom district. Her main source of family income is from rice cropping. To earn additional income, her husband works for another employer for a fee. From the current business, she is able to earn up to 37,000 KHR per day. Lat is an eight-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). The past loans, which she has repaid completely, have upgraded her living status in a gradual manner and provided her decent meals for her kids. Now, she is in a group of three to apply for a new loan with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She and one of her joint members are seeking 1,400,000 KHR each, while her remaining member is applying for 1,200,000 KHR. For Lat as the group leader, she will use her loan portion to pay the plowing fee and to purchase rice seed for her farmland. She hopes to grow her rice timely and fruitfully so as she can make more income to better her lifestyle.
