Evangelina, 23, is a young, hard-working entrepreneur who, together with her husband, earns a living in agriculture (corn and bean cultivation). They also have a coffee nursery and sell part of the crop to cover maintenance costs and use the other part for home consumption. She was able to get an elementary education but could not continue. Her parents taught her from a very early age to work the land. Evangelina and her husband believed that through years of hard work and by saving their money they could one day have their own farmland so as not to have to rent land. They now own a patch of land about 15 minutes from their house, and they walk to it every day. This allows them to be able to supervise their crops and keep animals, birds and plant disease away.
Evangelina is requesting a loan to buy fertilizers and other products for maintenance of her corn and bean crops, as well as the coffee nursery. Now is the season for this and they do not have enough cash to buy the expensive products. They do not want to use cheap products which could affect the harvest outcome.
Her goal is to give her youngest son a good education so he can lead a better lifestyle, and also to buy more land to grow coffee. This will increase her production and provide employment for her family.
