All of them married, the women of the group Badegna average 25 years of age and two children each, living for the most part in traditional families in the Massablacoura district of Bougouni City. These women know one another through ties of commerce, friendship, and community. To develop their financial capacity, so as to carry out their commerce better, they joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are now on their third loan cycle. The previous loans were all correctly prepaid. This group of women does commerce in shoes, clothing, and condiments at the Bougouni market.
Mah, who is standing at the far right in the photo, buys and sells shoes and intends to use her loan to purchase 125 pairs of shoes of any quality from Bougouni wholesalers. Then she will resell them at the big market of Bougouni and from home where she accepts cash or credit from a customer base composed of men and women.
She envisions making an average monthly profit of 60,000 francs CFA that will be used for the children's education and for repaying the loan.
