Bahati Group's story

Jane is pictured on the right with her hand raised among her Bahati Group members. The 11 of them, 7 women and 4 men, are farmers in Kakamega South District. Farming inputs will be delivered to her on credit consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ an acre of maize, millet, and sorghum. Jane first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Jane joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer in order to grow enough food for the family.

Jane, as a One Acre Fund farmer, described her harvest as excellent last year and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. She plans to use the money that she earns from her next harvest to send her children to school and also to invest in cows. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Jane’s group members will take input loans of ½ an acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 5.5 acres of land.
