Diego, 45, is married and lives in Sololá. (He's the first person on the right in the photograph, wearing a purple t-shirt.) He has six children. Four of them are women, two of whom help Diego work in the field, contributing to the development of the family.
He makes a living growing and maintaining bananas and tomatoes on a plot of land one kilometer from his house. He learned this job from his father and this is how he supports his family, because it's one of the most common jobs in the community.
He has 15 years of experience working independently on his family's land and selling his products in the local market. He make a good living and wants to invest more to expand his business.
He's a leader in the community, organizing a group of people for whom he's requesting a loan to expand the crop by buying fertilizer and banana plants for the next planting, and to pay the workers to prepare the plots of land.
He hopes that in the future he can buy another plot of land to expand his crops and get more profit to continue supporting his children in their academic studies and to improve the family economy more all the time.
The other members of this group do the same job, growing and maintaining bananas and coffee, which are one of the main job-generating activities in the region.
