A loan helped to purchase milk, bread, sugar, and soap to sell.

Ruth's story

Ruth is 50 years old, married, and has five children, two of whom attend school. She lives in the town of Lugazi in the Mukono region of Uganda. For the past two years, Ruth has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells sugar, soap, milk, and bread.

Ruth is requesting a loan from BRAC Uganda for 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings, which she will use to buy more milk, bread, sugar, and soap to sell. The loan will help Ruth generate greater profits and boost her business. Ruth hopes that in the future she will be able to be more productive and maintain her business at that level.

Ruth is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Ruth who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
