Pictured here are teachers from one of the primary schools in Kabala, a town in northern Sierra Leone. This group of teachers has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a loan of 13,600,000 Leones. With the help of this loan, they are empowered to meet their immediate financial obligations. At the end of each month, they will be able to easily repay the loan by using their monthly salaries. Their school's bursar is directly responsible for performing the deductions and making repayments on their behalf.
David is the featured leader of this group. He is a native of Binkolo village in northern Sierra Leone. David is married to a trader, and the couple has five children – two in primary school and three in secondary school. Now 50 years old, David has been a professional teacher for 27 years. He has requested this loan to pay school fees for his children.
