Las Bugambilias Group's story

“Las Bugambilias” is a group of 14 people located in the community of Monte Alto; the community’s main economic activity is planting sugarcane and collecting rubber tree resins. Paula is one of the group members. She’s 21-years-old and attended secondary school. She’s married to Federico and they have two children. Paula comments that her mother taught her to work in the fields when she was very little and to strive for her family. Now she has two children and must work even more to earn a little more money and give them a better life opportunity.

She’s very happy because she has her sugarcane field planted and she enjoys doing it very much because she learns more about this work every day. Paula comments that she’s been in this business for four years and thanks to God her crop yields have been very good and with help from her workers she’s moved her crops forward. She will use this investment to buy fertilizer and to pay her laborers; to irrigate and care for her crop to move her business forward and be able to continue moving ahead with her crop. Paula hopes in future to offer her children a career.
