A 49-year-old mother, Heang is a paddy farmer in the Ek Phnom district of Battambang province. She has seven children in total, only two of whom are still under her responsibility as they are in school. To tackle daily expenses, rice farming is the main source of her income and working for others for a fee is her additional income. It is the only business owned by her that she has been with for 10 years. Her main challenge is the unpredictable flood which destroys her crop.
Heang is the leader of this group of two. She has been with VisionFund (Kiva's partner) for ages, having taken out eight loans. She has managed her loans with success in order to keep up a good pace of her business and improve her living conditions gradually. Now, she and her group are seeking a loan of 1,000,000 Riels (KHR) each. She is going to spend her loan portion on fertilizer, seed, and a plowing fee. She hopes to grow her crop on time and receive double income.
