Leide has a store where she sells food, provisions, and liquor. She also distributes ‘bollos’, a piece of corn dough wrapped in corn husks to which cheese is added, and ‘chichas de maíz’ [corn based drink].
She has 15 years of experience in this business. She started it to answer her need for income because she could not find employment. This is because there is a lack of work opportunities in Barranquilla, where she lives with her husband and three children, ages 6, 10, and 16.
She sells her products directly to the final consumers, which are her neighbors and people referred by them.
Leide is requesting a Kiva loan to buy mass consumption products like food and supplies and to be able to make rice chichas. She also wants to buy liquor and provisions that are very profitable for her business.
Leide hopes that the loan will help her with the growth of her business. She wants to have a self-service with which she would be able to get more income. Leide also really wants her children to complete their studies. That is why she works every day from seven in the morning until nine at night generating the income needed so that her family lives more comfortably.
