Rachel's story

Rachel specializes in handcrafted beaded jewelry. She would like to stock up on beads and stones for her jewelry.

Rachel has been selling through NOVICA since early 2012. This is her story:

"I grew up in the mountain village of Abiriw, in the eastern region of Ghana. Every year in September, we celebrated the Odwira harvest festival to give thanks. For me, the highlight of the event was the beautiful and colorful traditional attire worn with gorgeous bead necklaces. For ten years, I worked as a teacher of textiles and apparel. As a single mom, I started sewing for people to supplement my income, and went into jewelry making when a friend graciously taught me. My dream is to one day set up a school to teach underprivileged girls my craft."

"I am very grateful for your assistance, which will help me grow my workshop. Artisans like me hope you'll continue contributing in this way, as it helps us provide for our families."
