A loan helped to buy more rice, posho and other local foods to sell.

Alex's story

Alex is 36 years old and lives in the town of Mbarara, Uganda. He is married and has two children, one of whom is currently in school. For the past two years, Alex has been working hard to manage his grocery, which sells sugar, soap and cooking oil.

To help expand his business, Alex has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more rice, posho and other local foods to sell, and will help Alex to generate greater profits and will improve his family's livelihood. Alex hopes that in the future he will be able to set up another business.

Alex is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Alex who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
