A loan helped to buy fertilizer and lease an additional plot of farmland, and to pay for labor costs.

Makara's story

Aged 35 years old and originally from the Dambae district of Kampong Cham Province, Makara is a married mother of two daughters who are still in school.

For ten years, she has made a living for her children's sake via cassava and soy bean planting. She can save about 4 US dollars per day on average. Makara has taken loans from VisionFund three times and managed to pay back the loans with success. From the past loans, she feels empowered that she can well-manage her household progressively, especially with decent food for her daughters.

To keep her business going, she is now seeking a new loan as a fourth loan-cycle client in the amount of 1,000 US dollars. She will use a portion of her loan to buy fertilizer and to pay for labor costs, and another portion of it for leasing another plot of land for growing her cash crops.

She hopes to gain more income so as to improve her standard of living.
