The eight members of Benkola 4 Group are married women who average 42 years of age and five children. The live in polygamous families in N’Djissoumbougou, a village in Dioîla Prefecture, Koulikoro Region.
They are collaborating with Kiva's partner, the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso, in order to organize their businesses better at the start of the rainy season.
They grow rice, peanuts and beans, among others, and they are seeking their second loan from Soro Yiriwaso.
With this new loan, Yama, the first person standing from the right in the photograph, intends to buy fertilizers, small equipments, and pay for plowing about 0.5 hectare of rice and beans fields.
After the harvest, the crops are sold in the towns of Banco, N’Golobougou and Dioïla, to a clientele comprising both men and women. Yama intends to turn an average profit of XOF 100'000 (ca US$ 190) per farming cycle.
