Adding to basket
The seven members of Benkadi 5 Group are married women who average 34 years of age and four children. They live in polygamous families in N’Djissoumbougou, a village in Dioïla Prefecture, Koulikoro Region.
They are collaborating with Kiva's partner, the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso, in order to organize their businesses better at the start of the rainy season.
They grow rice, peanuts and beans, among others, and they are seeking their second loan from Soro Yiriwaso.
With this new loan, Mariam (sitting on the right in the photograph), intends to buy fertilizers, small equipments, and pay for plowing about 0.25 hectare of rice and bean fields.
After the harvest, the crops are sold in the towns of Banco, N’Golobougou and Dioïla, to a clientele comprising both men and women. Mariam intends to turn an average profit of XOF 50'000 (ca US$ 95) per farming cycle.
