The 10 members of the 'Allakabo 2' group are married women. They have an average age of 46 and 5 children each. They all live in traditional families in Sincina Kinisso, a village in Koutiala, the third administrative region of Mali.
The ladies are working with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to manage their agricultural businesses over the winter. This is their seventh loan from the institution. They repaid their previous loans properly.
Mamou is the second lady from the right in the photo who is crouching down wearing a red scarf. She is a farmer who grows groundnuts. She will use her loan to buy farming inputs, seeds and small farm machinery. She will also pay labor costs for maintaining one hectare of land. After she harvests her crops, she will sell them in the village and in the market in Koutiala. She will sell to a customer base made up of both men and women.
Mamou plans to make an average profit of 170,000 CFA francs at the end of the season. This money will allow her to repay her loan and also help her husband with their daily expenses.
