A loan helped to buy nail polish, acetone, emery boards and cream.

Martha Maria's story

Martha, who is a manicurist, lives in the Coop 5 de Junio sector in Duran. She started the business observing her father who is a barber. He taught her to cut hair, especially men’s. When she finished secondary school she made the decision to learn beauty since she had her parents’ support. Now, at the age of 32 and being a single mother of three children she turned her skills into her way of life.

Because she does not have the resources necessary to open a beauty salon she does work for family members or friends at home. Martha indicates that she does not have a fixed work schedule because she works when it’s requested of her. Because she must go from place to place, her greatest concern is crime because her sector is a bit dangerous but with God’s help she hopes to be problem-free.

She will use the loan to buy nail polish, acetone, emery boards and cream to use and to sell. Martha indicates that she sees herself in five years running an eatery located in her town’s main street since this is her passion.
