A loan helped to buy more bags of sugar, cartons of salt, boxes of soap and jerry cans of cooking oil.

Sylvia's story

Sylvia is married and has two children, who all go to school. She also takes care of additional family members, including her father. She has a retail shop and has been in this business for 10 years. She has applied for a loan of 1,500,000 Ugandan shillings from MCDT-SACCO to buy more bags of sugar, cartons of salt, boxes of soap and jerry cans of cooking oil. She doesn’t have any other income-generating activity. Her major business challenges include transportation, thieves, and the ever-increasing price of commodities. She aspires to grow her business so that she owns a fully stocked retail shop and also to become a wholesaler and to build her own house. She lives in a rented house, and the family has access to electricity but not to running water. Her monthly expenses include rent, food, and school fees.
