A loan helped to build an irrigation system.

Halit's story

Halit, a sixty-two-year-old married man with seven grown-up children, lives in a little village in Central Albania. It is his first time requesting a loan and he is very grateful to the VFA and KIVA for the opportunity he’s been granted, because this loan will be a great help.

Halit owns four “dynyms” of land where he grows veggies, grains and raises animals. Also, he has planted 600 plum trees. He sells the harvested produce to wholesale buyers. When Halit was asked about the progress of his business he said, “farming brings only happiness to me and all of my family together. I get the chance to work along with them every day. Being in this business for twenty-one years now, I remember more good years than bad ones. It has been going well and profitably, too. “

Halit loves the entire farming process of plowing, watering and harvesting, and his plans include growing the business. With the profit that he has generated so far, he has been paying for expenses related to his children such as schooling, marriages and building basic homes for his newly married children. “And this has drained my savings, otherwise I could afford building the irrigation system with no need for a loan. I cannot do the watering/draining manually, anymore,” Halit says.
