A loan helped to purchase secondhand clothing for resale in the village.

Mzia's story

Mzia is a 52-year-old farmer from the Martvili District. She lives with her husband, Gia, and her mother in law (a pensioner). Gia works as a car mechanic in the village. He repairs cars of his and nearby villages’ population. Mzia runs the agricultural business of the family. In particular, she takes care of two milk cows, producing cheese and selling it from houses to local dairy products retailers. Also, Mzia and Gia grow maize on a family-owned 2-hectare plot of land. The total average monthly income of the family is 600 Laris, including the monthly pension of Mzia’s mother in law.

Mzia requested credit for a start-up trade with secondhand clothes. She will purchase the clothes from wholesalers and sell it in the village with a price mark-up. According to her estimations, the business will be profitable, as there is quite a big demand for cheap clothing in the village, and also she won’t have competitors. Mzia plans to make some savings in order to purchase a car, in order to sell the clothes in other villages as well from the car.
