Julia, 38, lives with the father of her three children (Jordy, Joran and Wilson). They all live together in her own house located in the Bellavista Huaracayo settlement in Tarma.
She’s been working in agriculture since she was 17 years old. She currently plants corn, peas, lima beans and potatoes in her own fields located half an hour away from her house. Despite a demanding job, what she likes best is the support she gets from her husband. “My husband does the heaviest work; while he harvests, I take the products to market,” she mentions.
Julia also buys and sells choclo (unripe corn). To do so she goes all the way to the city of Lima and at the same time takes merchandise she gets in her own locality there. One of her goals is to increase corn and pea production and to do so she must invest more capital.
She belongs to the “Señor de Muruhuay” communal bank and this is MFP loan #10. She feels happy to be able to contribute to her group’s growth and she also promises to be punctual with her installment payments.
Julia will earmark the 1500 soles requested to buy three bags of pea seeds to start this crop’s planting season.
