Alimatu's story

Meet 34-year-old Alimatu from Waterloo, a neighborhood of Freetown, Sierra Leone. She is widowed with three children between the ages of 10 and 21, all of whom currently attend school. In 2008, Alimatu established her food container business: she sells cooking pots, saucepans, rubber buckets and dishes. Alimatu began her business because she needed a permanent source of income to support her family. She works at the business from 7:30 am until 7:00 pm, seven days per week. She says that the main challenges to her business are transportation and price fluctuations.

Alimatu requires a loan in order to buy more food containers such as cooking pots, saucepans, rubber buckets and dishes. She hopes that the extra income from this loan will allow her to educate her children. In the future, Alimatu plans to build a house. She thanks you for your support.
