Julia, 35, lives with her partner, who is a modest and hardworking man because very early he works selling bread and later at his job as a farmer on a little plot of land. Together they have three children whose ages are 14 years, 7 years, and 10 months. They are the most important thing they have in life, for which they work a lot to give them the best.
Her house is located in the district of Santiago, Ica, Peru. Santiago is known for housing various agro-export businesses, which provide a lot of jobs in the area. The district is also known for its agricultural activity, especially asparagus, grapes, and cotton.
Julia is very happy. When she has some free time she likes to watch television, especially her soap operas. She also likes to make one of her favorite dishes, which is "escabeche de pollo" [marinated chicken]. She only studied up to the fourth level of secondary school, but she would like to have studied to be a secretary. This is why she works hard to be able to give her children the best, so they will be better than she is.
Every day Julia gets up very early to open her business at exactly 4 in the morning. She sells groceries. She is very dedicated and above all because she realized that opening her business very early and not closing during the lunch hour helps her to sell a bit more and be able to have more income. She works around 12 hours a day. She believes that it is going well for her because she attends to the customers in a friendly way and because she sells quality products.
Julia is very grateful to the Kiva lenders because thanks to the help they have given her she will be able to buy more merchandise for her business, particularly rice, sugar, and canned tuna, among other things. With this improvement she will be able to have a greater variety of products to sell to her customers and so improve her income. This will allow her to improve her family's quality of life and continue fighting every day to realize her big dream: "To give her children a profession so they will be better than she is."
