The Donatin group is composed of three people living in the same neighborhood. It is the sixth time that the group is seeking financial support from ALIDé, in order to expand their business. The group’s representative, by the name of Bernadette, is the one raising her hand in the photo. Bernadette is 35 years old and lives in Benin. Bernadette stopped her formal education at the primary school level. Her husband’s name is Felix. They have two children, both in school. Bernadette lives together with her husband and children and, jointly with her husband, provides for various household needs. In order to cover her expenses, for five years Bernadette has been selling “akassa” (a thick cornmeal porridge) out of her home and also, as a secondary activity, other miscellaneous items. With the goal of meeting customer needs and increasing her sales volume and her revenues, Bernadette, together with the other members of the Donatin group, is seeking her sixth loan from ALIDé.
