A loan helped to buy stock merchandise for her store and ingredients to cook her dishes.

Esly Karina's story

Elsy, 27, is single and lives with her aunt and cousin in Puerto Cortes.

Elsy is a very hardworking young woman. She has a small grocery store that she managed to open a year ago since she had no job opportunities that would cover household economic needs. She also sells food like “baleada” [a wheat flour tortilla, often quite thick, folded in half and filled with mashed fried beans], corn and flour cakes filled with meat, lunches and dinners. She states that she’s done very well and has known how to administer her investment well working all day.

This is her first ODEF loan and she will use it to buy foodstuffs (basic grains) to stock her grocery store and also to buy ingredients to make the food she sells. She intends to increase income and earn good profits this way improving her quality of life.
